The Georgia Department of Transportation announces a detour to facilitate the reconstruction of the intersection at Brookwood Road and Caney Road. The Brookwood side of the intersection with State Route 141 is slated to close Monday, January 18, and is scheduled to reopen to traffic Friday, March 5, weather permitting.
Traffic will be detoured from the state route onto Caney Road. The detour is required because of the elevation change that will result in a flatter roadway and a safer intersection improving sight distance for drivers.
SR 141 will not be detoured as a result of this closure. Traffic from SR 141 must use the detour route to reach Brookwood Road, as the intersection with SR 141 and Brookwood will be closed while Brookwood is reconstructed. To reach Brookwood from SR 141, traffic will have to turn from SR 141 onto Old Alpharetta Road to Caney Road to Brookwood Road.
“The work at Brookwood Road requires an all out effort to close the south or west side of Brookwood to remove about 10 to 15 feet of existing road before traffic on the new, wider 141 can pass through this area. Thank you for your patience as we work to upgrade this road network in the area,” District Construction Engineer Randall Davis said. This 6.5-mile long construction project is 74% complete. The project widens SR 141 to a four-lane divided highway from McGinnis Ferry Road to SR 9.
Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this or any other construction project on interstates and state routes. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays due to inclement weather. Callers also can transfer to operators to request assistance or report incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. More information is available at www.511ga.org.
